aktpics > Day 291 - Dead tired.I'm the tired one, fyi. Big packing day and RV cleaning day. Fortunately I had some help (thanks Mom, Adrian, DJ & Amy).

One of the cats is responsible for the dead cricket. It seems like they are as annoyed by them as I am.
aktpics > Day 222 - Camera SP.This is another example of how a clearly defined idea of a picture comes to mind but I don't know why or where it came from. It kind of reminds me of that movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" where all of these different people start drawing/sculpting the same mountain.

So, here it is. I like it but I'm just not sure what to make of it. I hope this isn't a sign that I'm in the early stages of schizophrenia or something.
aktpics > Day 203 - Surreal.Straight from the camera into lightroom. From lightroom it went straight into photoshop. Then back to lightroom and straight up to smugmug.

I went back to Gatway National Park in Sandy Hook again. Between the sky and the wide angle lens this shot ended up a bit surreal. I decided to accentuate that a bit more in photoshop.
aktpics > Day 169 - Intelligent, Annoyed or Foolish. Really, just another excuse to play around with a different lighting setup.

I took my grandmother in for an eye exam the day after we got her license renewed. We were joking how she hadn't had an eye exam in 30 years. I suddenly realized that I hadn't had one in about 15 years.

My eyesight is still good, but it takes a while for my eyes to focus at far objects after I have been staring at the computer for a while. The doctor prescribed some computer/reading glasses. So I picked out this pair ($30) at a cool eye glass place in Chigago.

Not used to wearing glasses I peered out over the top and asked Amy if these made me look smart. She replied that I looked annoyed. I asked Jill the same question and she said "foolish". They were probably both right but I do like this lighting and my thirty dollar spectacles.
aktpics > Day 236 - POD Time. The only thing between me and going to bed is my Picture Of the Day. I wish I wasn't so good at procrastinating.
aktpics > August 24, 2009 - Observation Point Trail, Zion National Park, UT.This is not my favorite shot of the day, but it is a nice change from pretty sky, pretty rocks. But, if I had the BIG lens with me, then it would be different :)

It was a long day, so this is going to be a very long post. For those who don't have time for that (I really don't blame you) here is the condensed version: blah, blah, blah. Whine, whine, whine. Blah, blah and then on my drive back I saw these guys.

Extended version. I had my day all planned out. Hike 3 of the easiest trails in Zion and only take pictures that had some compositional merit. Trail 1, 1/2 mile and 98ft ascent. Trail 2, 1.2 miles, 69ft ascent. And if I still felt really good, trail 3, 2 miles with 150ft ascent.

So, Trail 1 is Weeping Rock that is supposed to have really pretty hanging gardens and water dripping all over the place. The water got all over me, the light was crap and I felt like I had just hiked the Burger King parking lot. As I am heading toward the shuttle bus stop, somewhat defeated, I see another trail sign. Observation Point. Man that sounds interesting, I just wish I could remember if it was a moderate or strenuous hike. No matter, I can always turn around if I get tired.

I guess that is kind of like saying I can always ask for directions if I get lost. I can remember thinking at least 10 times: I should turn around...but I must almost be there!

This was an 8 mile round trip hike with a 2,148ft ascent. But it was worth the pain, the view was spectacular. And I was pretty much blinded by color the whole way up. So much so that I deleted 50 of the 63 I shot. 9 of my keepers may still get deleted depending on how I feel in the morning. The other 3 got posted in my other gallery.

Oh, then I saw these guys from the car on my way home.
aktpics > Day 215 - Sittin' on a bench by the bay. I did go down to the dock for my SPOD but I was attacked by a swarm of gnats. They bite hard and have no compunction with flying into your nose, ears and mouth.

This is Duke. His sister Daisy would have been in the picture too but I lost her when I had to go back into the house for the bigger tripod.

I just noticed my shirt wasn't tucked in. Fortunately my "crack" is not showing. Although, that would have made for an interesting challenge to retouch that in photoshop :)
aktpics > Day 180 - Filthy Kittens. All of the kittens that my sister Angela was fostering were adopted out to nice families. The little calico was adopted by my mom. That's one reason why I should never foster any cats.

She is now fostering Alice, a very underweight tabby, and her 7 kittens. I should have fun photographing them for the next 2 months.

Kitten wrangler I'm not - this is a composite image :)
aktpics > August 15, 2009 - National Cemetery, Sante Fe, NM.I left the RV in Albuquerque and took the rental to Santa Fe for a day trip. I like Santa Fe a lot, but I was somewhat dissapointed that I couldn't find any really old looking structures. Too many tourists also.
