aktpics > Day 171 - Ahh, Spring. Reaquainted with my old pal, the lawnmower. I still like him better than Mr. Snowshovel.
aktpics > Day 97 - Solitude. I decided to shower and shave today and get out to see the world. The last two days of chilling out has put me into a very relaxed state of mind.

This was taken at the old Mortar Battery adjacent to the Sandy Hook Light House. My favorite view of the light house is from this spot. I got some ideas rolling around in my head for a picture here, so I am scoping it out.

I did a photoshop version of the Velvia Effect. I got the idea from Gareth (Celtic Camera). I love the colors in the ones he did.

Edit: Ugh! I meant to put a hyperlink on Gareth's site. He explains the Velvia effect on his 2-5-08 photo better than I could. It is here: http://thecelticcamera.blogspot.com/
aktpics > Day 346 - Trial by Fire (7/4/2009).I'm back! Or, at the very least, I no longer have the excuse that I have been using for the past year to not take pictures. Yes, I sold my house and the closing was on last Tuesday! I am really bothered by the fact that I have put my life on hold until my house sold.

This shot was taken at a July 4th party. My friend Larry told me that he still checks this project every day to see if I have posted a picture. I was very touched by that to say the least. I brought my camera to the party to take before and after pictures of people taking tequila shots. That never really materialized this year, but I was "contracted" to photograph a spouse who had too much to drink and passed out.

That was a hillarious, but ugly scene. My advise to you if you have a tendancy to pass out at parties...don't. Especially if there are other party goers who have a high quality camera. And, even more importantly, if said party goer has access to props such as hats, wigs, live crabs and zuchinnis. Yes, plural. That is all I am going to say about it. Your mental image will probably be uglier than it really was, but not by much :)

My goal now is to finish this project and to start taking lots of pictures...that I am not in. I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th!
aktpics > Day 344 - Dirt (2/17/2009)Hello everyone! Yeah, I'm still alive. Thanks to some friendly nudges from friends I have blown the dust off of my camera to see if it still works.

I got a couple of truck loads full of fill dirt delivered and I needed to move it around. Fortunatly, I found out that Lloyd has a bucket for his tractor. It sure beats the hell out of a using a shovel.

This camera angle was inspired by one of JY's photos, which I have always really liked.

I hope everyone is doing well. I also hope I can keep the dust off of my gear and not be such a stranger.
aktpics > Day 235 - Lost my head. Not really, besides it looks like my body is what's missing. I gave Amy my old tablet pc. She has been pining over it for about a year now. I was going to use it for a digital picture frame but I don't see why I can't use the new one for that, since the frame wasn't going to be permanent anyway.

She has been such a huge help to me with the cats and she will be even more so in the next month or so. Good luck with it, Amy. I hope you have as much fun with it as I did.
aktpics > Day 208 - Losing weight?I think I might have actually lost a couple of pounds. I thought for sure I was going to bust out of my suit at the wedding, but somehow it survived again. I certainly haven't changed my diet - I eat enough for an entire family. The only thing I can attribute it to is mowing the lawn. My lawn mower is the self-propelled, push type. Last year the lever that engages the drive wheels broke. I decided not to fix it, since I needed the excercise. Now it takes me over an hour to mow and it is a pretty decent workout.
aktpics > Day 316 - September Eleventh. My secret to getting through the day seems to be hard work and avoiding television. It wasn't planned that way but the RV is surrounded by trees so I don't have a satellite signal. And I had to dig a 7 by 3 foot deep trench for an electrical conduit.

I am, what I guess you would call, a World Trade Center survivor. I was in building two when the plane struck the other building. I had made it to the underground mall by the time the plane struck my building.

Every year my friends and family would usually ask how I got through the day. The first couple of years I felt a little guilty becuase I wasn't overwhelmed with sadness. After that, I allowed myself to visit the site and to watch those incredibly sad television broadcasts. Those days were pretty difficult to get through.

The last couple of years I have been focusing a lot more on experiencing and enjoying life. When I was working in NY I absolutely HATED my 1.5-2.5 hour commute. But year after year I continued because the money was good. I guess the only thing all that money would have gotten me, had I been incinerated in that building, would be a very nice funeral.

I got through today with some honest work and by sharing some Coronas with the crew that poured the concrete in my barn. All relatively guilt free.

I hope your day was as good or better. My thoughts go out to those who have lost friends and loved ones on Setptember eleventh.

[EDIT] I accidentally checked the hide photo checkbox when I was leaving my comment. Ugh.
aktpics > Day 157 - Ninety Nine. That's how old my grandmother is today. Froliche Geburtstag Omi. I wish I knew how to put an umlaut over the 'o'.

Well we had a productive day. We went to motor vehicles to get her drivers license renewed. She passed her vision test, barely, but that was without glasses. Then we celbrated with pizza at the mall.

When I stay with my grandmother I feel like such a giant. Not only because she is pretty tiny, but also because of her house. The ceilings are of normal height but the top of the medicine cabinet, for example, comes up to my chin. The shower is at chest height and the doors are very narrow. Not to mention all of the furniture is so close to the ground. It's amazing that I don't walk around saying "fee, fi, fo, fum..." all day long.

I am very proud of my grandmother, she is an amazing woman.
aktpics > Day 288 - Yesterday's News.I am still pretty tired today. We did a lot of walking yesterday and I had pizza, which always makes me tired the next day.

I decided not to delete this one and, instead, use it for today's POD. This is another example of getting this great idea for a picture and then seeing it on the computer and wondering where it came from.

So I decided to have at it in photoshop and make it a little more interesting than it was in the camera. Matt, this is the shot that drew blood. That is another reason why I should not just delete it.

I wasn't sure if this was "out of bounds" or not. There was a bar, but I didn't see any signs. I was so carefull not to damage anything, that I managed to cut my finger somehow.

I posted my Shots from ESP today. The pictures of the gang are at the end:)

Day 171 - Ahh, Spring.

Reaquainted with my old pal, the lawnmower. I still like him better than Mr. Snowshovel.
